If it wasn't for Kode9, there would be no Burial or Skrillex; the global dubstep phenomenon, with all its bright and dark spots, could not have started without this London-based DJ, producer and publisher. Combining his love of dub and British club music such as jungle and garage with a postmodern philosophy inspired by his work with the infamous academic group CCRU, he created the webzine Hyperdub in 2000, which over the following decades has evolved into one of the most important record labels in experimental electronic circles. As a producer, he is known for two collaborative albums with MC Spaceape and countless side releases; as an academic, for his book Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear, published in 2011. Today, his DJ sets weave together an unpredictable, bass-heavy mix of house, garage, dubstep, grime, footwork, hip-hop, r&b, techno and jungle.
