Venue description

The Kupferstichkabinett, or Museum of Prints and Drawings, is part of the Berlin State Museums, and is located in the Kulturforum on Potsdamer Platz at the district Berlin-Mitte. It is the biggest museum of graphic arts in Germany and one of the most important collections of this kind in the whole world with over 500.000 prints and ca. 110.000 other graphical works such as drawings, pastel-, watercolor- and oil sketches. As the museum for graphic art it is the collection-, competence- and exhibition center of the Berlin State Museums for drawing and printing graphic, book illumination and artistic illustration.

It understands itself as a central place of artistic ideas, pictures and European as well as world cultural forms of expression with works from 1000 years of artistic, cultural and media history from the Middle Ages until today.

The Kupferstichkabinett collects European, in the recent past also international, drawings and printed graphics, but also illuminated hand scripts from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, books with artistic graphics, portfolio works, sketchbooks, topographical views and printing plates. Is hosts artworks by Sandro Boticelli, Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Adolph Menzel, Vincent van Gogh, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and Gerhard Richter among many others.
