Vinicius Cantuária: Psychedelic Rio

The master of Brazilian bossa nova with a flavour of avant-garde, electronica and contemporary jazz comes with his new project Psychedelic Rio.

Vinicius Cantuária, the bandmate of Brazil's biggest superstar Caetano Velosa, returns to Prague with his trio to present the new album Psychedelic Rio (2024).

Composer, guitarist, percussionist, drummer and vocalist Vinicius Cantuária is considered to be the successor of Tom Jobim and Caetano Velosa, whose band he was in. He is one of the most important figures of the new Brazilian music and absolutely fundamental for the expansion of the genre beyond the borders of Brazil. He often combines traditional bossa nova with electronics and contemporary jazz techniques. Since 1995 he has lived in New York City, where he has become a leading figure in the New York downtown jazz scene. He has worked with leading jazz and avant-garde artists such as Marc Ribot, Bill Frisell, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson and Arto Lindsay. In Prague, he will present a brand new project and the eponymous album Psychedelic Rio.
