Venue description

Haus am Waldsee at the Berlin district Zehlendorf is an exhibition space for international contemporary art. Since its foundation as an exhibition house in 1946 it is one of the first houses for international contemporary art in Berlin.

Haus am Waldsee offers a platform for international artists that work and live in Berlin. Paintings, drawings, video art, sculptures, design, architecture and works that deal with composition and sound are shown. In up to five exhibitions per year separate artists or special topics are presented, sometimes also classical works of post-war modernism. Besides, a sculpture garden belongs to the museum: Skulpturenpark am Waldsee.

Haus am Waldsee has a special focus on the mediation of innovative approaches and artistic points of view: There are childrens’ vernissages, artist talks, dinners for artists, performances, a summer academy and concerts taking place on a regular base and audio guides lead visitors to prominent examples of modern architecture in the direct neighborhood of the house.

Works of many popular artists such as Käthe Kolwitz, Pablo Picasso, Niki de Saint Halle or Franz Marc have already been shown at Haus am Waldsee.
