Venue description

The Berlin Wall Memorial (Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer) is the central memorial site of German division, located in the middle of the capital. Situated at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse, it extends along 1.4 kilometers of the former border strip.

The permanent exhibition, which opened in 2014, informs about the building of the wall, its background and consequences. In the open air exhibition, functionality of the wall and the border system become clear. The Fenster des Gedenkens is a reminder of all the people who have lost their lives at the Berlin Wall. Multimedia information desks will inform visitors about the different stages of the building of the Wall and the important events connected to its construction in both German and English.
