“Love cannot kill, it brings new life.” These words were spoken by an American soldier, Pinkerton, to a young geisha, Cio-Cio-San, during a starry night in Nagasaki. But as they both discover, carelessly spoken words and promises can have indelible consequences. Produced by directors Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier, Puccini's haunting and heartbreaking opera takes inspiration from European images of 19th century Japan.
