What can a jungle school look like? Children should have the right to an education. While approaches to learning vary across continents, one thing remains common - it must take place in a creative environment. Marta Maccaglia, an Italian architect who has been based in Peru since 2011, has set up her own studio, Semillas, with the primary aim of exploring and developing educational opportunities in remote parts of the Peruvian jungle. Her work emphasizes principles that are primarily based on local cultural traditions and resources, always making the result fit as much as possible into its surroundings. This is not just about traditional designing from the table. The processes include involving local communities in decision-making and developing financial models to include both the private and private sectors. The finished buildings are then the result of collaborative working and respect local values.

Marta Maccaglia's work was also featured in the exhibition A Lot With Little, which was launched in February this year.
