Popis miesta

The Berlinische Galerie – Museum for Art, Photography and Architecture (Landesmuseum für Moderne Kunst, Fotografie und Architektur) is one of the youngest museums in the capital and showcases art made in Berlin from 1870 till today. Among its areas of focus are Dada Berlin, New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit), Eastern European avant-garde and art created during the Berlin Wall era as well as in the reunited metropolis.

In 2004, the Berlinische Galerie moved into its first own building on Alte Jakobstraße in Kreuzberg. The building, which was constructed in 1964 as a glass storing facility, was fundamentally refurbished. The second floor was converted so as to accommodate a foyer, library, study room and auditorium. Special exhibitions are shown on the ground floor, while the permanent collection has been on display in a spatial structure designed by architect David Saik on the top floor since 2011. Special exhibitions range from classical modernism to contemporary art in Berlin. The gallery's exhibition program consists of a vast array of themes, artistic styles and genres. It is complemented by multifaceted program series, collaborative projects and programmes for children, adolescents and adults in the "Atelier Bunter Jakob".
