Venue description

Domäne Dahlem is the historical knights’ estate of the former village Dahlem and today hosts an open-air-museum for agricultural and food culture with a focus on ecology in the Southwest of Berlin. The country estate, where farming is practiced since more than 800 years, is Germany’s only farm with connection to the Underground. Visitors can easily reach the place through the station Dorf Dahlem, that is connected to the line U3.

„Culinarium“, that illustrates the cultural history of nutrition from 1850 until today in a permanent exhibition, and the museum „Museum im Herrenhaus“ that is located in the oldest residential building in Berlin are parts of the manor. At Domäne Dahlem, visitors can follow the way of groceries from the field to consumption and watch over the shoulder of craftsmen as well as go shopping at the farm shop or enjoy homemade dishes at the restaurant.

The farm is a certified organic farm and won the federal competition „Ideas for the Federal Republic“ as a lighthouse project for innovative educational work.

Domäne Dahlem is visited by more than 300.000 people per year and is a popular venue for events with market fairs and festivals, a broad educational program, concerts and lectures as well a special childrens’ program and therefore a meeting place for people of all ages.
