The Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava was founded in 1952 as a regional gallery of Moravian-Silesian Region. The gallery is the largest art gallery with its own collections in the region. The main building is the House of Art (Dům umění) which was built in 1926. This fine example of modern architecture is one of Ostrava’s architectural gems and a listed heritage site. The quality of the collections ranks the gallery among the five most important collecting institutions in the Czech Republic.
