PLATO Bauhaus – Venue closed

PLATO was the city’s gallery for contemporary art. It operated on an area of almost 5000 m² in the former Bauhaus Hobby Market in the centre of Ostrava. Its final home is now a renovated, listed city slaughterhouse from the late 19th century in the immediate vicinity of the Bauhaus.

PLATO is the only contributory organization of the Statutory City of Ostrava that is dedicated to visual art without building its own collection. The Ostrava cultural community has been striving for a gallery established by the city since the 1990s. PLATO was established on 1 July 2016. Its existence was preceded by a grant project in Dolní Vítkovice (2013–2016).
