The Venetian musical tradition of the early 17th century was of fundamental importance for the development of European music. Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Monteverdi’s predecessor as Kapellmeister of St Mark’s Basilica, was one of the composers whose influence extended beyond the borders of the Republic of Venice and Italy. Among his pupils was Heinrich Schütz and his work was followed by the great Claudio Monteverdi himself.

Programme:

  • H. Schütz – Der Herr ist mein Hirt SWV 398, Feget den alten, Sauerteig aus SWV 404
  • C. Monteverdi – Dixit Dominus SV 264, Beatus vir SV 268
  • G. Gabrieli – O Jesu mi dulcissime, O Domine Jesu Christe, Cantate Domino
