Hildegard von Bingen (1098–1179), a nun, mystic, composer, and writer, is one of the very few twelfth-century composers whose name is known and whose work has survived on a larger scale – in her case, we have a corpus of 77 compositions and a liturgical drama. The Tiburtina Ensemble was founded in Prague in 2008 and brought together women artists who focus on the interpretation of Gregorian chant, medieval polyphony, and contemporary music.
