Cinergy.cz in cooperation with FAMUFEST and Edison Filmhub, invites you to a screening of Disco Boy followed by a discussion with Italian director Giacomo Abbruzzese about the making of his ambitious debut film, which premiered in the Main Competition of the Berlinale 2023. The discussion will not only cover the development and production of the film, but also the collaboration with the cinematographer Hélène Louvart and the musician Vitalic, or the journey to film festivals, led by the filmmaker Šimon Holý.
Giacomo Abbruzzese was born in Taranto in southern Italy in 1983, he studied at Le Fresnoy in France and made several short films which were screened at many international festivals including Oberhausen, Clermont-Ferrand or the Viennale as well as on international television. In 2022, his documentary America was nominated for a César. His first feature-length fiction film Disco Boy was premiered at IFF Berlinale 2023.

In the Niger Delta, Jomo fights against oil companies that threaten the survival of his village. Meanwhile, his sister Udoka dreams of escaping, knowing that all is already lost there. Beyond borders, life and death, their destinies will intertwine.
